This does not good at present.

There is an article in one of the news papers about Sky shutting off the broadcast to Telemicro. With Telemicro saying they are in negotiations with Sky to renew the contract.

Sky also stated in the same article they only broadcast their service to the UK and Ireland

Plus the new message on some of the TV chanels thanking people for not phoning with enquiries as to whats going on.

Default Re Telmicro Levante

Blatantly nicked from another forum.

Quote:
We have been installing Satellite systems along the Costa Blanca for 15 years which I believe makes us the longest serving British managed Satellite installation Company on the Costa Blanca.

In light of the recent developments we will not be installing any more re-broadcast systems, this has been a dificult decision to make but we believe the time has come to put clients interests ahead of short term commercial gain, and in our considered opinion advising clients to install Re-broadcast systems is not a viable option.

With the removal of Sky Channels the only decent content left are the BBC,ITV,C4/5 programs, these are free to air or free to view if you have a big enough dish to receive them, however rebroadcasting of these channels for gain is considered an act of piracy and copywrite theft unless you have agreements to re-broadcast,our Lawyer in the UK has contacted BBC and Channel 4,and they have stated that nobody in Spain has the rights to re-broadcast their content and they will take legal measures to prevent any unauthorised re-broadcast of their content,ITV and C5 were unable to comment but promised to reply soon.

Further investigation into why Sky was pulled from re-broadcasters not just here but in the Northern Costa Blanca revealed that action was taken by Canal Digital and that all the Companies involved had known about this for some time, their main complaints were over the showing of Football and films for which they had paid the rights to show in Spain,as BBC,ITV and Channel5 show live football,I believe that Canal Digital will not be happy with just the removal of Sky Channels and there is the possibilty of a second wave calling for the removal of all channels that show football or movies for which Canal Digital have paid the rights.

Another concern is that of the frequencies being used by rebroadcast companies to deliver their programs, most rebroadcasters will claim to have licenses to broadcast etc but the reality is they only have CMT registrations, there are no available licenses to rebroadcast, all broadcast licenses were sold on a national level for millions of euros. A large chunk of the 2GHz band has been sold to Telecos for mobile internet and 3G services, and we forsee problems for rebroadcasters using these frequencies without licenses. Some rebroadcasters use the 10Ghz band, the only licenses permitted in this band are for specific point to point links, with each link having its own license, therefore the only legal way for a rebroadcaster to use this frequency band would be to have a license for every client, not really viable as each license can cost several thousand euros !

In conclusion our opinion is that rebroadcast systems have an uncertain future and extra costs are likely to occur for changing reception equipment, and good program content is likely to be lost due to unauthorised distribution, our advise whether on an individual or collective basis is to get you own dish and secure future viewing.

Sky1, discovery channel and history channel are now back.
They might not be in the same location on your receiver as they were before.

I just tried doing a retune of the box, but none of the channel names show up.

Bit of a disgrace this is, we have just (in March) paid up for the whole year - we wont get anything back and dont really expect to. But we paid to watch these channels, if they can not provide the service and the channels that people have paid for they should repay or compensate the customers.

I understand about it being copyright and that it has always been illegal, but at the end of the day it is not my problem, it is theirs?

We had just come back from holiday in May to discover a large chuck of the channels missing, obviously we have not contacted them as they must be having hundreds of calls a day and our phone call would not influence anything or make the situation any different.

I will try retuning the box when I get back from work to see if any of the channels have come back - but if they can not offer the sports channels I may as well just pay Canal and watch the football games with Spanish commentary?

What about all the other satellite companies? Are they affected at the moment? Or is it solely Telmicro?

There must be so many annoyed customers out there, we are just one of them.

We have tried getting hold of the Telmicro TV guide. Seems not many stock that now. Thats the book you could get for free at one stage then they started charging €1 for it.

If you still have an old copy floating round from 3rd to 9th may, they have a step by step guide on retuning the receiver box to find new channels on page 56.

I'm not sure if scanning the page and publishing it on the internet would be a copyright infringement

I think I have done it before when someone else told me about new channels that were added last year or the year before.

Just havent tried it recently as they have been taking away channels instead of adding them !

There are so many rumours circulating as to what is going to happen with Telmicro that I emailed them yesterday to see what they had to say.

I have received an email back saying that they hope to have all our sport channels including Setanta back up and running by next week.

Fingers crossed.

Looks like the Spanish are cutting down on the illegal TV transmissions

Quote:
85 people have been arrested across the country
85 people have been arrested across the country in connection with the illegal distribution of pay television signals, several of them in Alicante.

Hotel owners, local cable TV operators and television and antenna installers have been arrested in the operation which has also looked at several urbanisations and communities.

Police say 115 decoders have been impounded in the operation which it’s estimated was defrauding the programmers several million €. Arrests were made in the provinces of Málaga, Sevilla, Cantabria, León, Granada and Alicante.

No idea if this has any relationship with Telmicro
