Be on your guard. Our house had a visit at some time on Sunday evening from sneak thieves.

The first that was noticed was the bottom of the back door not shutting and being pushed in.

On closer inspection of the door, a foot or shoe impression is clearly visible where they have tried forcing the bottom of the door. Along with the back door key being out of its normal alignment.

What makes this attempted break in worse is the fact that the house was occupied at the time, no doubt if anyone had entered the three sleeping lumps of fur (over fed, pampered rug rats) would have alerted us.

My guess is that now the warmer weather is starting they are trying back doors in a hope they are open and then they can grab bags etc containing cash, credit cards and valuables.

Please be vigilant and remember to keep your doors locked in an attempt to stop this happening. Our back door was locked, but the security bolts were not pushed home. Which saved us.

God help the scum if we ever catch them

Lee, sorry to hear about that but glad nothing has been stolen. This is very frightening as those
idiots dare do such a thing when the house is occupied & in daylight.

We went over last night to see if the dogs stirred or any strange noises were even noticed.

The only thing that seemed strange was my own dog. He went for an extended wander for about twenty minutes when I was out having a smoke about 10pm. If it had been one of the yappy rats, they would have alerted us to anyone, my spaniel on the other hand will be everyone's friend.

A lesson learned last night, Spaniels make crap guard dogs.

Its not only a Spain thing, we had similar happen in the UK a number of years ago.

One summers evening a chancer entered through the open back door, stole a bag and helped himself to an ice cream out the freezer, then left the wrapper in the garden where he ate it. In the UK there were 6ft high fences around the property.

With the recession hitting harder all the time and a very limited benefits system over here, this kind of occurrence will be on the increase I would imagine.

Like most others, our house is alarmed.

Plus I have a couple of nappy fillers in the house.

As with anything, an alarm is only good if people are there to take notice of it. How many people live in the sticks where no one takes any notice or reacts to an alarm going off.

We had a silent alarm at one stage. Even after it went off and the company that monitored it raised the alarm, it still took a good half hour for the police to respond on that occasion.

What are the rules on external bell boxes in Spain?

Lee, your right about the alarm system. If everybody ignores it it's useless. When we first bought our house in Catral we had a local monitered spanish one where they call to the box in your house for a password. (Can't remember the name) Anyway the house was alarmed they pulled the window grill off smashed the window walked in and ripped it of the wall.
They then helped themselves to what they wanted and left.

Anyway after that we came to the conclusion that the system was useless.

Since then we have installed another system which has sensors outside and on all the shutters so it goes off before any damage is done. The really clever part is it sends txt messsages to me and my neighbours telling us which part has been activated. (If they don't here the external sounders)
You can swittch it on/off with a text message it will also tell you when the power is off to the house. You don't need a landline just a sim card.

I think it is made in ukraine or somewhere, but we have had it now for two years and its been trouble free and reliable.

Gordon

Yes alarm is good if people hear it. My neighbor got robbed while they're away & their alarm system was monitored too but the alarm didn't set off. These burglars know a way of not setting the alarm off.
