There is now a petition being organised to stop the planned new Catral motorway

The following is the email Jose sent out who runs the local Crime Watch. The forms mentioned in the email are attached.

UPDATE VI – Meeting 19th of June/Motorway/Allegations.


Dear All,

Further to my last communications regarding the new Motorway AP37 that will go across the right-up corner of Catral and if successful will mean the demolition of an important number of homes, I would like to inform you that after the 19th of June of 2009 meeting , the council for Urbanism, Mr Bellido, informed us at the Town Hall about the following;

- The Town Hall is categorically against the Motorway, they will not support any of the alternatives contained in the AP37 project.
- In case the Spanish Government insists in going ahead with the Motorway then they will suggest a different alterative not included in the project that will use an existing road and will not cause any trouble to home owners.
- The Catral authorities will hold a meeting on Monday the 22nd with the rest of Councils and Mayors of the Towns affected by the Motorway in order to prepare their joint allegations against the Motorway.
- Even when you are not affected directly by the Motorway, this project will affect the whole Town and will cause problems for all of you. Mr Bellido stated that ALL the Town of Catral must complain against the Motorway.
- In a first moment we were considering to collect signatures but in Mr Bellido opinion will be best to sign individual allegations so the authorities in charged of the approval of the project will have to respond to it and we will be stronger.
- Therefore, Mr Bellido made a special call in order to ask ALL of you to sign the Allegations that the Town Hall Solicitor has prepared in order to be stronger against the Motorway. Please, find attached a copy of the Town Hall allegations.
- Obviously, if you are directly affected then you can complete or to prepare your own allegations in order to add legal grounds to what the Town Hall has already prepared. The Town Hall allegations are mainly based on Environmental problems. Is advisable then for those directly affected to contact their Solicitors in order to prepare their specific allegations.
- The objections form properly filled in and signed should be taken to the Town Hall first floor (Registry) before the 5th of July.

If you want to help then please, find below instructions for the authorities general form that ALL of you, affected or not, may sign and take to the Town Hall in order to support the complaint against the Motorway;

- Print up the three attached pages.
- Include your personal details, name and NIE or Residencia number in the first line of the first page (D:……..).
- Include your address (and number of plot in catastro if you know it) in the second line of the first page (Parcela registral y catastral………….).
- Include the date and your signature on the bottom of the last page.
- Make a photocopy and take the original and the copy to the Town Hall
- The Town Hall will keep the original and will stamp the copy in order to give you evidence of the lodging. Please, keep the copy.

Personally, I was explaining to the people attending the meeting that the grounds that authorities will accept and study in the allegations must be legal grounds based on Laws, personal circumstances or normal consequences of a road as may be the noise will not have any legal importance if not supported or developed in accordance with a Law, therefore, if you are directly affected please, contact us in case you are our client or your Solicitor if any of my clients is passing to you this note ad you are not working with my Firm.

Please, pass this letter to as many people as you can, it does not matter if they are clients of my Firm or not, it is important to get lots of allegations lodged at the Town Hall before the 5th of July.

I will keep you informed about development regarding Authorities conversations or any changes, etc.

Thank you very much for your support and help, the Town of Catral do not need any more roads to spoil the traditional agriculture soil that has been already affected also, we do have an important problem for which we have been fighting for years in order to legalize the existing homes in rustic soil and now this process may be affected and delayed as a result of the AP37 project.

I will quickly add to be on the lookout for a silver four door car. This was seen driving slowly around a cul de sac in the Arroba de Hornas area today. They seemed to be looking at the properties in the area. Unfortunately I was unable to get a clear view of make and model.

In the past we have similar and then one or two break in´s shortly after.
