This one is a strange one even by our normal strange in Catral

This even makes thr roundabout seem normal

Has anyone been down Arroba de Hornas in the last couple of days?

They have been laying tarmac. No Im not on about tarmac on the road being strange, well it is, but it gets stranger.

Instead of doing the whole road, half a road etc, they have done sections, which I can only assume are in some kind of semaphore.

You get say ten or twenty yards of tarmac, followed by a gap, then another ten or twenty yards, followed by another gap. Its like this all the way down from the Meroil petrol station to the Dolores / Catral road.

These lumps of tarmac are either a new form of longer speed bump or semaphore.

If its semaphore, has anyone deciphered what it says yet, either in English or Spanish

So whats the Spanish for "lotsa money" "give us your money" or "your doomed"

Hi Lee
I did actually fail my A level in Spanish Semaphore but my refresher course when I was in the SAS helps a little.

Today I have been and looked at the road in question and I have come up with a basic translation, I dont know if it makes any sense to you.

Your slacking John, in my days as a multi billion pound stock broker, where only retired SAS generals worked, we covered advanced Spanish semaphore. Of course due to the high level of secrecy involved in the work and organisation, lets just call it the MI5, not to be confused with the M25 or B&Q, until this very moment in time, I have been unable to tell anyone. Let this be our little secret, between me and you mate.

The last bit says "we think we found him"

Using my secret espionage skills, I have been down with a tin of black paint and mimicked the tarmac and added "oh no you aint and a pint of lager please"

These Spanish people are clever little rascals

Well, fellow Catralenses, the reason for the rather interesting patchwork quilt along Arroba de Hornos is that they ran out of money to do the whole road so they had to economise and do just the very worst patches, in order to save money for the more essential stuff – like fireworks. Never mind, if enough of us install new septic tanks the taxes might boost coffers enough to finish off…but, then again, maybe not…

Trust me, I tried the semaphore today, and discovered it in actual fact braille.

Every time I hit another bump, it was making me use swear words, which even I never knew existed.

Cracked and bruised ribs are the answer to understanding what the roads message means

Going by the standard of some of the driving in the area, it would also explain why they use braille on the roads
