Has anyone heard anything about the new toll road / motorway they are building to link Catral with Murcia?

I heard today that it will go ahead, its hoped the building of it will ease the unemployment in the area. And they are still deciding which one of two routes it will take.

Has anyone heard anything of the routes they are looking at?

Yes. Antonio Bellido received a copy of the map last week.

The new motorway will begin at Junction 733 then bisect Aroba de Madriguera. The route curves across the fields towards Camino de la Borda and runs parallel to this up to the Callosa border.

At least 10 properties will need to be demolished and, although the map is not yet available for public consultation, his copy can be viewed and the official protest procedure can begin immediately. Quite apart from the properties that are to be demolished a great number will be extremely close to motorway, and, if the route is approved, their values will be greatly reduced.

Unless the route is altered many expats (and a few spaniards) will find their properties very difficult to sell, even though it is unlikely the construction will commence for some years.

I can not find the names mentioned on an internet map !! Can anyone point me in the right direction please ?

Also are the plans simply from Jct 733 to Callosa or is a new road planned all the way to Murcia ?

Thanks
Sue

Travelling from Catral towards Callosa, at the Meroil Petrol Station roundabout take the left hand exit then almost immediatly turn right. That brings you into Aroba de Madriguera. The new motorway is going to cross it very close to the large factory building on Aroba de Madriguera.

Maps are now available from Catral Town Hall clearly showing the route mentioned below, although I understand that this is only one of a few options. As we already have easy access to two motorways I don't really see the need for a third, perhaps a more sensible use for the money would be more appropriate.

Be plenty of job creation if they use the same team to tarmac it as they do the local lanes

Any idea how many houses are affected by the planned route.

Is it possible to scan and attach the map? Then I can see if we need to sell up or not.

Thanks,

If I can get hold of a copy of it, I will do just that.

From what we heard this week, there was a meeting in Catral Wednesday last week with about 100 people in attendance. I dont know any more about that meeting or who organised it, be it CACAU or Crime Watch or even Catral town hall.

A recent news paper article said that the town halls of villages affected by it are trying to appeal against it and that includes Catral

I have hold of the maps and scanned them, plus added some new code to the forums to be able to display google maps. One is a little skewif.

The maps are scanned from an A4 piece of paper.

Map 1

Map 2

And so you can see where the planned motorway is in relation to Catral and get your bearings via google maps. The magic new bit of code is used for this.

You know I always thought that forums were a waste of time. People bullshitting about the price of food and stuff. Well I'm converted, having been a member for a year and working overseas it's been a hive of usefull information.

Thanks Lee it's good to be able to stay in touch with whats going off when your not there, keep up the good work. oh, by the way I don't have to sell up and move.

A very professional forum.
