Air Rifles in Spain

 

Can I bring into Spain a Target Rifle 12ft lb .177 for use in approved clubs or do I need a Spanish licence - I have a FAC licence in the UK.

12ft/lb air rifles are no problem in Spain. They look upon them as toys and our limit here in Spain is 18ft/lbs for non fac

Try shooting one of the home grown Gamos at 18ft/lbs and you will need a trip to the dentist to replace your fillings

You are meant to register your airguns though. The form needed can be obtained from most shops that sell them.

From memory you will need a receipt of sale for the air rifle which states power, seriel number and make/ model number when you fill in the registration form

All airguns are supposed to be registered in Spain. When you buy an airgun here it comes with 2 cards to licence it. The onus is on you to complete all the parts and take them to the Mayor's Office. You do not need to take the gun as well. There is no charge for licencing.

The first card has three identical parts on one sheet and is white overprinted with a yellow pattern of a coat of arms (shown on the Spanish flag above left). The three parts have perforations between to allow them to be separated. You are given one part to keep, the Ayuntamiento (local council) keep a second, and I think the third part is sent to the Guardia Intervención de Armas (firearms licensing division). All the parts of the second card are kept by the Ayuntamiento.

The Licence must be carried with the airgun at all times

I flew and old plonker of an air rifle to Spain on BA (as well as a new Walther CP88 air pistol....no problems.....just ring them and get them to put it on your tix entry on the computer (an email confirmation is also good to show to check in staff).....

BA lets you take sporting equipment up to 23 kgs (in addition to your checked hold bag of 23KGS) ....no extra charge...

expect an inspection at bulky baggage when you leave...pack bags to be able to be easily opened and resealed .....

 

I had no success in Spanish gun shops whatsoever.

I went in the one nearest to where I was living and he wouldn't even sell me a poxy little air pistol even though I have a UK dealers license valid throughout the EU. Which was amusing because the aforementioned owners best friend had asked me a few weeks earlier to make him a silencer for his full bore rifle so he can go hunting out of season - silencers being horribly illegal in Spain.
So this Spaniard has the cheek to ask me to break their firearms laws but his mate won't even sell me an airgun ? That sums Spain up for me - they think we all dropped off a Xmas tree, which I certainly didn't.

One shop in Valencia I didn't even get properly through the door of. As soon as the owner saw me he started waving his ams around like a Thunderbirds puppet and ushered me out. What a cock. Typical Spaniard as well, about 5 feet tall, wearing crimplene old man trousers and a cardigan which looked like he stole it off a tramp. The drains were broken near the shop doorway so the place smelled like a sewer. Typical Spain again.

And before anyone suggests I have an attitude problem, I was all smiles, politeness and doing my best to converse in their language ( for what good it did )

I found you either need your passport or NIE to buy an air rifles in Spain.

Is that just the full bore kit that silencers are illegal on Sid?

 

Definitely illegal on firearms, I'm not sure about airguns. I seem to remember one issue of a Spanish gun magazine with a review of a horrible looking Gamo springer that had an integral silencer.

yep apparently ....er.... 'moderators' are not Kosher for real 'firearms' ... .22's and up ...but ok for air rifles.....Gamo, Norica etc include them on production air rifles.....

...interestingly the 'Armeria Espanola's catalogue lists .22 rifles threaded for boca de frenos.... or muzzle brakes ......

....yep those .22's sure have a lot of muzzle jump and blast

Lucky that, the only rifle with a silencer on it is a 177. But I got muzzel breaks on a couple of .22 brococks.

So whats the difference between a silencer and muzzel break. Mine has it written on there in my best crayon
