I personally have no time whatsoever for the target boys. Time and time again they have rolled over in the face of government legislation and betrayed the wider world of shooting - they are happy with the government banning everything firearms related except their elitist hobby of punching holes in targets at Bisley.

I'd like to see decent people armed for their protection. Balls to target shooting, I've never met such a bunch of unpleasant ' live with my mum ' weirdo's in my life.
Sid,

.....'I can get behind from where you're coming from'...(gee i love that expession!).....shooting 1000yds at a black bull is pretty dry especially now only with SMLE's and Swedish 6.5 x 55's ! (the SLR's and AR15's were bannned back home in OZ in '96 after Port Arthur).....

whereas we had our Queens St (Melbourne), Strathfield (Sydney) and Port Arthur (Tasmania) massacres....for the Politicians to go for our guns...

.....you had Hungerford & Dunblane....

I'm surprised though that you Brits didnt get more politically active to defend your sport (fragmentation I guess) when I was working in the UK I went to the Phoenix guns shows at Bisley, Military Odysey, War & Peace shows and dozens of smaller militaria fairs...... the number of people who own air rifles, guns/shotties and deacts...or like collecting stuff is pretty vast......surely you could have got together?

In my home state NSW a prominent radio announcer (a bloke something like Nick Ferrari in London) who was a shooter started a political party called 'The Shooter Party'.... he got elected to the Upper House (like your House of Lords)...and recently we've got a second member elected....

whilst we'd never be able to control Govt. they can side with either of the main parties ...Labour or Liberal parties.....( like your Labour & Conservatives)...to get legislation through and do 'sweetheart deals' with .... this has won us some major concessions and gives us a voice...

In fact 'the shooters' swung votes against an unsympathetic NSW Labour Govt in the late 80's and let the Liberals (more sympathetic to shooters... at the time..) gain power......

Yeah I agree with you about each little branch of shooting thinking they live in a ivory tower...after Port Arthur our Federal Govt was just initially after banning semi auto long military style arms..
.....the pistol shooters, shot gunners and most Full borers in Oz did 'roll on their backs'.....
...then.... they copped it up the clakker as the Federal Govt banned everything in long arms semi-auto..... from 22's, auto shotties & Pump actions and military and sporting semi autos !!!...

....the pistol shooters thought they had gotten away scot free....

.....then we had a smallish shooting incident (two dead i think) with a registered pistol shooter responsible.... and.... it was time again to ban stuff..!!!!

....finally we have now all seen the light and now all the shooting disciplines as well as hunters...pull together....

.......we've now realised that Governments use the 'death by a thousand cuts' and 'divide and conquer' methods to screw us !!!!!
