A good case for wearing eye protection...

 

The other day I was plinking with the Gamo .22 .... i usually use my little target backstop which has alternate layers of cardboard and 3 ply to slow the pellets down.....and catch them ...havent had a pass through...or riccochet....

....there was a piece of MDF fibre board lying on the ground so i propped it for a informal penetration test....

..at 23m the pellet pentrated 5mm or so then bounced back the 23m and wacked me on the leg (shin).....

...I know it doesnt look life threatening ...(not like the time a mate and I in Oz accidentely got into a crossfire situation with some wild pigs and were basically shooting at each other with a .270 Winchester (him) and me a 7mm08 Remington !).....

...but.... it did have enough energy after a 46m flight and penetrating the board ...to draw blood..... (its the red dot on the leg ...photo taken hours later ..that nite..it actually bled at the time!)...pellet expanded nicely....

...if it had hit an unprotected eye it would be ...well.... at fancy dress parties I would forevermore be a one eyed pirate ...arrrhhh arrhhh.....me hearties...

Lesson learnt...always use eye protection....
