| Spanish firearms certificate, starting from scratch..... Hi,
This is my first time on the forum and I am look for guidance. Basically, I used to shot airguns and shotguns in the UK many years ago. I never had a licence but my dad did.
I would like to start rifle shooting, the most basic (above airguns .22 etc). I understand that there is a licence available in Spain (I live in Malaga) for "Caza menor" which I would like to obtain.
Could anyone tell me how I go about this? I mean I couldnt just come home from work and go to the local police station and say "let me have a gun" also not being a member of a club etc how do I prove I go hunting?
I would like to go hunting but cant seem to find any schools / groups where I could hire a rifle under guidance and learn, even a target shot in the Malaga area would be great if anyone could supply me with any info on any of this.
Thanks alot,
Best regards,
Andrew

| Re: Starting from scratch..... hi andrew,
glad to see there is someone else down south!!
if you check some of the other threads that have been posted you should get a goog idea of what to do, but you MUST join a club to make things easy for yourself.
for hunting with shotgun you have to hit a man size target with two shots,
well that cant be to hard can it!!
for pistol you have to score over 50( out of a hundred) one handed at 25 metres, well than can be hard believe me.
you can have a rimfire , or centre fire rifle on a shotgun certificate.
if i can help any more keep on the forum, if not i go to a shooting club EVERY SATURDAY with some friends , all good people, so i could meet you if you like.the main federation of andalucia (outdoor club) is on the antequera road in the mountains just out side malaga. great place but you need good spanish to get on there,
hope this helps,
keep in touch, mookman |

| Re: Starting from scratch..... Nice one Mookman, I was hoping you would answer
I'm moving out at the beginning of April, I'll be applying for every license going about 10 minutes after I get off the plane

| Re: Starting from scratch..... hi,
the club is the federation of andalucia club, it is in guadalmedina.
go to google.es, then put FATO. this will give you there office and web contact. good luck , you would be better of meeting me and i will take you.
they will not let you shoot there unless you have a license and federacion membership,
you can join there no problem , and they will put you through youre license.
good luck, mookman |

| Re: Starting from scratch..... Hi,
Thanks again for the response. I will let you know when I plan on going down there (so we could meet up). I am waiting for my replacement passport from the embassy which I assume I would need (I dont have the Spanish ID card because they wont let me collect it until I have my passport even though the card has my photo on it) as I dont have any other form of ID (except my Corte ingles charge card ;-) ).
Thanks again,
Andrew |

you can have a rimfire , or centre fire rifle on a shotgun certificate.
You cannot have center fire rifles on an E licence. The regs say you can have large calibre rifles but they have to be rim-fire, a joke really as there is no such commercial round I know of above .22 because rimfire only lends it's self to small case rounds. However the .17 HMR is one hell of a rim-fire round due to it's relatively large (for rimfire) case size.
The .204 Ruger is not allowed as it's center fire, despite it being less than .22.
However if you want to go shooting big game with your E licence then use rifled slugs in your shotgun. You are not however, allowed to put a rifled barrel on your shotgun if you only have a cat E ticket. |

| Re: Starting from scratch..... hi, thanks for putting me right on the subject of centrefire rifles on shotgun cert.
all the info i get is via frantic spanish arm waving friends, who consider it there right to have everything certificate or not.
last time i was at the club they had a 9mm berretta polymer rifle they said i could have!! ( semi auto ) 10 round pistol mag. god only knows what that would go on then.
youre right about solid slug , they rock, used to shot practical s/gun, nothing like the sound of a large piece of lead hitting steel.

| Re: Starting from scratch..... Yeah, I was told a few years back that ''foreigners'' were not allowed to have any kind of firearm licence. This turned out to be rather out of date 'information'.
That Beretta sounds like the Storm. As it's over the max length for a pistol it's classed as a rifle despite it using a pistol cartridge, so you need a large calibre rifle licence which is cat D.
I've got a few boxes of slugs that I'll be having a razz with at the range next week, I'm just looking around the house for something worthwhile to shoot up. Melons are an expensive luxury but unbeatable for spectacular effect. Mind you just blatting a 5 litre can around the range is also a laugh, especially if you can keep it moving; which ranges from easy to hard depending on what no. cartridge you're using. |
