A Gijón bus driver was arrested this morning after testing over the limit for alcohol following an accident this morning on the Tremañes-Puente Seco freeway.
Traffic police report that the bus driver, who was not carrying any passengers, caused the accident by straying into the path of incoming traffic, colliding first with a Peugeot Partner van then a Seat León.
The van driver was only slightly injured and was discharged after receiving treatment at the scene.
The car driver, on the other hand, who had to be cut free from the mangled wreckage of his vehicle, is in a critical condition in the intensive care of a hospital in Gijón.
The bus driver was arrested after a positive breathalyser test.
The accident occurred at around 8.45am.
