He battered his wife and two young children to death with a mallet as they sleeping in the family home
José María Maciá, the man found guilty at the end of last month of the triple murder of his wife and two young children, has been sentenced to 54 years in prison by the provincial court in
Alicante, 18 years for each of the murders. He has also been ordered to compensate his family’s relatives with the sum of 450,000 €. Current law in Spain means, however, that he will serve a maximum of 25 years inside.
The guilty ruling from the court last month underlined the coldness and brutality of the killer, and a lack of remorse despite killing his family with his own hands. It happened at the family home in
Elche in April 2005, when the accused stopped off at home to collect some money during a night out, and killed his wife and children as they sleeping.
He beat them to death with a mallet and, after washing the murder weapon in the shower, put on some cologne, and left to carry on his night out with his friends waiting outside, who were completely unaware of what had happened.
