Orihuela Rural Local Police are worried about a new plague of insects that appears to be affecting a certain type of prickly pear cacti (Chumberas), around the city centre and on the mountains.* The species affected is the opuncia ficus, which produces the edible prickly pears.* Due to the lack of rainfall and difficulty to irrigate in the area, plants which can survive with less water are becoming more popular.*
