News from Spain
After an extraordinary doubles match that lasted almost five hours and saw a 22-game fifth set, Spain on Saturday won its third Davis Cup match over Germany to give the "Armada" its first place in the tournament semi-finals since 2004.
Feliciano López and Fernando Verdasco faced 22 break points and missed 13 of their own in the marathon match to finally over come Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber and Philipp Petzschner 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, 2-6, 12-10.
The victory in the doubles arena compounded Friday's single wins: Rafael Nadal in three sets over Nicolas Kiefer and David Ferrer in four sets over the luckless Kohlschreiber.
In mid-September Spain will host reigning champions the United States, which beat France last weekend.
