House Denuncia Goes Stagnant,
Bill Vousden contacted the ‘Leader’ last week, at the end of his tether with the situation of a house on the urbanisation he is president of. The house in question is clearly visible from the roundabout in La Zenia opposite LIDL and the new Lloyds Bank. “What an introduction to Orihuela Coast!” says Bill exasperated, “This is the first part of La Zenia that many people see.”
The house has been empty for 3 to 4 years and is in a very sorry state. The swimming pool is half full with stagnant water, an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes, the garden is lettered with bricks, rubble, rubbish and overgrown weeds. Rats have been seen there on more than one occasion. A rusty sign on the roof is loose, just waiting for a strong gust of wind to blow it down onto the pavement, hopefully when no one is passing by.
The house was extended by the original owner and breaks the legal requirements of not being less than 5 metres from the road. Bill wonders if the Spanish owners have some friends high up, as he can think of no other explanation as to why the owners have been able to get away with this for so long. Over forty denuncias were handed into the Town Hall, signed by all the other residents on the urbanisation on April 27th 2007. Nothing has been heard about the matter since. The Town Hall appear to have lost various previous denouncements. In June last year, Bill saw Stefan Pokroppa, who promised to look into the matter. After numerous phone calls and visits to Stefan, Bill received an Edict which was signed by Monica Lorente, the Mayoress. This was displayed in the Town Hall for 15 days. However since then nothing has happened. When Bill phones Stefan he just says he doesn’t know anything more about the matter.
The house appears to be owned by Urbanizaciones Paraiso Mediterraneo SL, but the lawyers have not been able to find this company, or so they say. No community fees have been paid by the owner either. The frustrating matter appears to have gone stagnant.
