The quehoteles agency is set to become Spain's first on-line hotel agency to enable its advertisers to post videos of their facilities on the internet.
The agency, which is based in the Andalucía Technology Park in Málaga, will thus become the first to allow its customers to get a much better idea of the standard of a hotel's rooms and facilities, causing much less damage to the environment than the traditional glossy brochure option.
Hotels in Málaga, Granada, Madrid and Toledo have already submitted promotional videos, and the company is expecting other major tourist destinations to follow suit over the next few months.
Launched just four years ago, quehoteles.com is now Spain's second largest on-line hotel booking agency with bookings up 40% on last year with a massive 30% increase over the Easter period.
The head of the company's Commercial department, María de los Ángeles Serón García, explains that "people are still scared to buy over the internet," especially the older generation, but that the trend is rising, especially for last-minute bookings that are sometimes difficult to arrange using traditional methods.
The profile of a typical on-line booker is male, aged between 20-40, single or living with a partner, earning an average income.
By province, Madrid is top of the propensity to book hotels on-line league with 17%, followed by Barcelona (13.62%), Sevilla (5.23%), Valencia (5.07%), and Málaga (4.16%).
