Don't let the rough lunatic exterior Mookman portrays scare you

Mookman is a shining example of what you can achieve with the right incentive and if you put your mind to it.

He is one of the few expats over here that holds a Spanish fire arms certificate.

To gain it he has had to jump through the normal paperwork hoops associated with Spain, plus become very well versed in the Spanish language to sit his exam to be able to legally own a hand gun in Spain.

The course work he had to study was all in Spanish. The training they give is all in Spanish.

The exam had papers in both English and Spanish, but since by the time he sat the exam he could understand the language to a very high level, he did the Spanish exam paper.

So he has proved if you have the right incentive you can learn to read and Speak Spanish

And its not all lunatics and freaks own guns. Well we hope he has shown that

cheers lee, at least somebody understands that there is no point in moaning about things here , if you want something bad enough you will put up with all they can throw at you.
joined a new club a couple of months ago, the only guiri there, they treated me like dirt .
shot my first practical competition there on saturday, guess what ,...... i came fourth out of ten. well after the competition they all shook my hand and made me drink rioja, and eat lots of snacks,.... el gordo....
so the point is , dont moan about them , take them on at there own game and try and beat them, its the ONLY way to get there respect!!!!!!!!!!

To boost the Mookman even more. He is our version of top gears stig, but ain't so ugly he has to wear a crash helmet. The though of saying he wears a paper bag instead never occurred to me, so I never added it

Very little is known about the Mookman, not even his real name. But he has gone where few others have been.

Some hobbies and sports tend to get a large following by the expats, so you tend to go to a club and find fellow countrymen there and able to advise you on how to join, what to do etc.

Other sports and hobbies people get put off if they are the only expat trying to join and give up if they are struggling to find what to do or how to go about it.

With the target shooting hobby, the same can be said. You will find a lot of shotgun owners who shoot clay pigeon. So people can mix, get advise and its the big scary move into the unknown.

Mookman shoots target pistol. Which not many expats do. So he has gone in blind with very little help from anyone thats been there and done that and had to find out all the ins and outs of how to gain his licenses, laws involved with ownership etc.

Which just goes to show if you are determined enough achieve something over here you can and not to be put of if your the only English person trying to pursue that hobby, dream etc

The Coast Rider has finally updated with the story I was waiting on

The story of the guy stopped for not wearing a seatbelt even though he was.

Quote:
Heavy fine leads to complaint
A British man has complained to the British Consulate following what he believes was a fraudulent fine made by two Guardia Civil Officers.

Mark Harrison, who is a regular visitor to Spain, was travelling from Quesada to Habaneras shopping Centre when he overtook a slow moving Fiat Stilo. The car picked up speed and pulled back in front of him, this time the Guardia Civil lights were on display and a “follow us” sign was clearly visible in the back window.

Mark followed the car off the CV905 towards Los Montesinos and into the car park of a garden centre.

The officers told Mark he was being fined for not wearing his seat belt, which Mark absolutely denied.

He claims he always wears his belt and was wearing it right from the start of his journey. Mark asked to see video footage of his offence but was told the car was not fitted with surveillance equipment.

Mark said: “If I had been found not wearing my belt, fair enough – but I was wearing it. If that wasn’t bad enough, one of the Guards told me that if they said I wasn’t wearing my belt, then I wasn’t. He also said that if I didn’t like it I should go back to my own country.”

After checking his documents, Mark was given a ticket for €150 for not wearing his seat belt and told that with early payment the fine would be reduced to €105. Mark took the ticket along with the names and station of the officers involved.

Incensed at the injustice of the fine and his treatment, Mark spoke to the British Consulate in Alicante to find out if there was any recourse he could take and exactly what the complaints procedure is against the Guardia Civil.

The British Consulate gives this advice to anyone wishing to refute a traffic fine or file a complaint against Guardia Civil officers. Always make sure you get a ticket. This will show exactly what you have been fined for. Ask for the officers’ name and the station where they are based.

In addition to the ticket, the officer should give you another document, which outlines where you go to pay your fine and what the complaints procedure is. Take the ticket and the details you have to the relevant Guardia Civil station and explain your complaint. If you aren’t fluent in Spanish you will need to take an interpreter with you. You should be able to sort out the issue there and then.

If you wish to complain about the conduct or behaviour of a Guardia Civil officer you will need to put your complaint in writing, addressed to the Head of the Guardia Civil in Alicante and copy the letter to the European Office of the Ombudsman.
