Default English television

Hi does anybody know what alternatives there are to get english tv other than companies like telemicro ? I have heard of cable tv or freesat but i have not found anyone that installs either, i have an apartment at entre naranjos near lo montesinos and go there 3 or 4 times a year so would rather a one off payment deal rather than a monthly subsciption .

Thanks

Get a Sky dish put up and orientated. 1.3m dish minimum.
When you come over bring your UK Sky box and card with you in your hand luggage and plug it in. Easy.

Check the small print on your building regulations. You might be limited to where the dish can be mounted as well.

Hi,

official cable tv (ono) or telefonicas adsl tv will provide mainly spansih channels.
other "local" cable services will be distributing the signals around the community via their own private cable service probably without any offical agreement to do so with the channel operators (ie bbc and sky) - similar to the rebroadcasters like telemicro.
UK Freesat uses the same satellite and signals as UK Sky, so depending on your location you may need a big dish (min 1.35m up to 2.4m!) to receive the main UK channels. once you have the equipment (dish and receiver) you can get many free tv channels. scoots idea will work also!
i dont cover your area, but check the local press for installers (i am sure there will be one in the CBN!)
hope this helps

Hi There
Have been following the recent discussions on English television on this and other Spanish websites. We have an alternative using only broadband internet
Check out BritishTVabroad<dot>com ..... There is currently a TV revolution going on in the UK ...with now nearly 40 channels on the internet .... but only available in the UK .... until we came along .... currently most of our customers are in the USA and Asia .... but we now have customers in Europe.
Please have a look .... it maybe a solution.
Happy to answer any questions ...after you've looked at the website.
Regards
Ron .... BritTVman

HaHa thanks for that .... whenever we appear in new markets ....the satellite guys arent happy .... are you one?
Can try the proxy suggestion ..... basically hacking into someones server and piggybacking until caught ...with iffie bandwidth and lots of buffering.. great if you are a techie or hacker ....
sure you are the former .....
Our solution is not suitable for everyone .... but maybe a solution for some to receive British TV without the 1.3 to 2.4m dish and the evening blackouts as you are at the edge of Astra 2 footprint.
have a look at the website BritishTVabroadcom and see for yourself.

from reading your site, you are providing access to your UK server, and then providing access to the bbc, itv's etc own player programes. almost like a proxy server? is this correct?

Great. Pistols at dawn. Love it. Bang, bang!

Anyway, I cannot comment on elsewhere in Spain but I have trouble watching clips on YouTube without buffering, not because I will not subscribe to fast broadband but because speeds of over 1 Mb do not exist here.

I have asked the Telefonica engineers if anything can be done. I was told that the only way to speed it up was to pay for my own line to the exchange (yeah right!) but then I'd still only get 3Mb as all the exchanges need updating to fibre-optic but Telefonica wont do it.

Oh the joys of having a monopoly mean you just don't have to give a crap...

I hate Telefonica.

The other problems with watching TV via the internet is the additional cost incurred with the extras needed to transfer the broadcast your watching to a normal TV.

How many people are happy to be gathered round a PC monitor watching the latest TV broadcasts

You either need to move your PC next to the TV and if your lucky have a direct cable connection capability from the PC to TV, or find another means to transfer the broadcast from your PC to TV. Plus the problems with the internet connection speeds for many in Spain with streaming video
