I've always thought I'd like to live in Spain - the country, so beautiful; the people and customs, so rich in history and romanticism!

Being a US citizen though, I wonder how hard it is for non-citizens to obtain work? And what is the cost of living? Can anyone relate this in US vs. Spain results? Thanks for any help.

This is a bone of contention on here. Depending on how you view the way things are heading in Spain and if you want to follow your heart and dreams.

We get a lot of people join then ask about work etc never to be seen again when they get an honest opinion. Something I like about the forum myself is the no bullshit approach the guys and girls on here give. Sometimes they might sound harsh with their responses, but why give false hope when people can risk loosing their life saving on some advice.

I will look into non Europeans rights of employment in Spain a bit later if no one can help. The book of all things regarding the laws in Spain I keep on my desk is "You and the law in Spain" written by David Searl and published by Santana Books.

Like the US, Spain looks as though its heading for recession with the property industry being hit hardest at present. Builders are struggling partly to do with bad press along with poor currency exchange rates.

The biggest employment sectors for non Spanish citizens has for a long time been the real estate industry. So you can guess why on this forum we tend to paint the job sector as being rather bleak.

Comparing the cost of living. Its probably better if you give an example of several items and let us tell you how much they cost here so you can get an idea of the comparison.
