I need your help for advise on how to improve the forums.

If its the layout you think is wrong,

Sections that should go in the bin,

The style thats all wrong, IE go back to a clean white looking style as many other forums use etc etc

Without getting feedback from the members on here, I cant make the decisions that keep every one happy

Its been suggested that 99% of the local area forums should go in the bin, until there is such need for them to return.

Any help or ideas will be very much appreciated

Got to say Lee, that I find the colour a bit intimidating, but that may be because it's so different !
I think binning the area thingy is a good idea, and we can always reinstate them if we get millions from one area.
The queries are more general and folk might find it a bit longwinded just to post in their 'own area'.
So perhaps just a list of thread headers, ie TV, Communities, Bikes, Food etc etc.
What do you think ???

I was talking to Sid about it the other day. At the time we mentioned too many forums.

There will be a big forum cull going on this week. All the posts from them will be moved over to the main Spain forum, so those that have posted will not have in vain.

Spain is Spain, you get the odd area specific subject, but not that many.

The Catral forum along with Kas's singles forum will be about the only two that remain from that sprawling section

As the Spanish say, aim at two rabbits and you will miss them both, aim at one and you have more chance of hitting it. Saying that, I have always been a lousy shot

The colour scheme I'm playing with in the background today. If you remember a white version that was on here, before I tried being different with the looks. Could well be making a return, tidied up a lot to save it looking so daunting.

Plus by going for a less graphics intent version, it will mean quicker page loading

I'm scratching my head on how best to group those that remain together.
Example
Spain forum
Off Topic
Motoring,
Property
etc etc
Then either classifieds or jobs

I'm still working on getting the the new old look back to looking neat and being understandable, rather than buttons that just add to confusion

Just do the headings as you've listed Lee and we can open new topics in each thread............it will save everybody hunting allover the site and getting fed up with it and perhaps not using the forum because of that fact.
Can you just lighten the colour up a bit ? I think the brown/rust is a bit daunting...................reminds me of something ?????

Is this look any better?

I still have a few minor bits to sort out. But most of it is done along with the killing of the unused forums

hi lee,
it looks much better with this white colour than the browny rusty stick colour!!!
a forum cull is also a good idea...the less sections there are will mean less hunting around.....

Nothing like the boredom of no TV kicking in.
Bit more of a tidy up, now grouped the non Spain related into their own section.

For any non members reading this, there is a total contrast between how members view the forums to non members do.

And now this is done, I need to alter quite a few other web sites that link directly to here, over the next day or two

We wont mention who, but one person did ask if it was worth adding a steam room forum, blow off steam type area, anything goes on topic being talked about.

We can password protect the forum, displaying the password in the forum description.
Or make it so only members with x amount of posts can view it and join in the chats there.

As we know, some people will join just to lets say moan about the subjects being discussed. I'm no angel myself with my own views on certain subjects as people will guess with the odd mention of durka durka and walking letter boxes and comments in my blog.

On the down side
Will it get us a bad name
Will idiots join just to post profanities
Its too easy for people to take screen shots and pass them on
We cant bypass the word sensor. There are ways, but not openly discussed on a forum, because will will find it works on all the other forums with word sensors.
What level of moderation would you apply. A recent incident on here as we now, did appal me through one members views and comments made towards to women members.
