Hi, I've been given an Amstrad digibox but cannot get sky news or bbc news as it comes up with channel unavailable. In fact, very few channels are available. I've tried adding the frequencies but they still don't appear. Also done a forced upgrade and left switched on for a day..still nothing. Is it faulty??

Which model is it ?

I had noticed issues with some of the new style AMSTRAD & THOMPSON boxes over the last few months.........

What size dish do you have ? What LNB ? which channels are working ie BBC 1 / ITV1 etc ?

One of our engineers is based in Javea and can come and check it out if required ?

Also i have in stock some absolutley MINT PACE 2600 C1 receivers which still outperform all other receivers on the market..........

Hi...it's an old DRX200. I only have a 1.8 dish so can't get BBC or ITV just wanted to use it in the dining room for watching Sky & BBC news but can't seem to add the channels. Thanks for the offer of an engineer, but I am an ex TV engineer and do a little satellite installing myself concentrating on motorised systems and small dish installs....can't be doing with 2,4 metres at my age!!

Its not the best of boxes i am afraid :-(

But you should definately be getting BBC1 / ITV some of the day in your area with the dish tuned in properly and a decent receiver...........

Infact if you know what you are doing then you should have ITV1, CH4, FIVE, FIVER & FIVE US 24/7 ...........

Hi again...thanks for your quick replies!! The dish is a very old fibreglass one I got years ago off a German neighbour returning home. I did spend a bit of time trying to pick up the beeb etc. but gave up...I think it's a combination of being a very old inefficient dish and my neighbours very tall pines getting in the way. I don't have a fta card now anyway.

I'm quite happy with Nilesat from my motorised system most of the time but did fancy getting Sky news over breakfast. The box is currently searching for listings after I asked for all channels in the TV guide so hopefully it might find some!!!

in some cases when the sky digibox has missed a few software updates it will not be able to receive certain channels and you get a few channel unavailables. this is one problem with old software - dark blue bands at the top of the TV guide / services menu. newer software has light blue all over the screen and the box can recognise the channels and their numbers again.

some receivers like pansonics as known to not upgrade at all (forced or automatic) if they have missed one or two software updates.

the software update for DRX's is not available at the moment on forced update....but they do cycle them every few days.
the only way to try it is to leave the box on for a few days and hope that the put the new software on stream - or try a forced download very early in the morning when the 11778 frequenecy is the stongest - ie before 9am....

if you have some of the latest software then you may have to help the sky box boot up by changing the default transponder to a stronger one - (services 401 select, 2 12129, save settings) - as the box may not recognise channel numbers until it has done a successful download of 6 hours EPG information...

if you have a motorised system, you can get sky news on astra 19 and on astra / eb 28...free on both satellites and available on ANY digital satellite receiver...bbc world news is just about on every satellite available, but the real BBC News is only on astra / eb 28's (11954H) - which i have just managed to get on my 60cm dish and DRX200 with updated software!!
