Come on Jon, wheres the answer. At this rate we will all need an acre of land, just for the satellite dishes or we could all learn Spanish and be just as confused talking as they are

Honest answer is....

...dont know.

No specs have been released about the new satellites footprints, and the only thing we do know is that they will be launched between 2012 and 2014, used for UK TV, and have the ability for "spot" beams...it dos not mean to say that they will be used for UK TV.....(astra 2b is used mainly for UK TV , but it also has a spot beam in use pointing towards Nigeria! SO maybe that is what has been refered to in the SES Astra press release.)

And remember that the idea of Astra 2D was to limit reception, which is why 2.4m dishes are requried onthe CB, and smaller on the CDSol. (Although reports are that the increase in signal in the south of spain is due to the astra 2d being damaged during manufacture!)

And some of the newer satellite with country specific beams have been able to be picked up on medium sized dishes - A German specific beam has been managed on a 1.2m dish in Madrid for example (according to reports!)

It may be that 4m dishes are required, or nothing will change - 4m dishes are currently needed in places like Greece, so if they do think of the dishes thay will need then!

And consider the fact that Sky may not like to lose some of the grey market income from expat subscription, so it may not be wise to totally blank out Spain....

Until the official specs are released its all speculation.

But you can always go and watch TDT or subscribe to D+.

(UK Premier Legaue football will not be on La2 or Teledeporte from next season - it will be on D+ and Gol TV - ie subscription only - and many Sky pay channels and UK / USA programmes are available on TDT or D+ in English only. And you have the option for VPN or downloads for UK TV if the worse is to come.....)

Losing British telly. What a terrifying thought. True the schedules are not exactly packed with quality stuff but I would miss it e.g. Piers Morgan on Marbella tomorrow should be interesting.
