Are there any planning regulations needed for the big dishes?

No doubt 2008 will go down in history as the year of the great beer and satellite dish shortage

No TV will mean more people drinking beer while waiting on their new dishes being delivered.

High demand for dishes will cause mass hysteria amongst the expats as they cant view emerdale or the other load of garbage called east enders

One installer who is a friend of a friend, reckons he received more than 100 phone calls today alone. He also heard that when Telmicro were raided, so were several other broadcasters in the area. True or false, I have no idea

if you live in a community / apparment block you will need permission from the community to install dish -
not everyone needs their own dish, with one dish you can feed many many seperate homes, but each home will reuqire their own satellite reciver, and if they want sky sports they will each have to have their own subscription...

it does depend why they were closed down.
if they were closed due to them broadcasting channels without permission then all rebroadcsaters will be closed down at som point.
if they were closed down dure to some other reason (for examle tax evasion, or other irregularities) then the other comapnies will be safe - for now....

good find, but as lee says, it is a very basic guide, good for DIY install of a small dish, not a 1.9 or 2.4. the signal meter is totally inadequte for big dish (bbc, itv) installations as it just is not accurate enough.

What do you expect for free on the internet.

I have just added that file plus two more to the downloads section on here
Life In Spain, Costa Blanca British Expatriates community forums - Downloads

The other two files cover motorised satellite dish instillation and caravan satellite dish instillation

If you want to put something useful in that section I've got a four volume technical history of the heavy machine gun

Question about satellite TV for you Jon.

Is there a maximum distance a satellite cable can be run or can you add a magic gizmo to increase signal strength over a long run of cable?

Our neighbour has mentioned going in with them on a big dish, but the cable run would be 50m plus.

Latest rumours and gossip
Telmicro office is still taped up according to another forum.
Gives my theory on alien abduction more credibility

50m plus is no problem - 70m is normally my limit - anything over 100m you need some form of amplifier - but some of these also amplify the noise in the cable - and certain atenuators (sp?) increase some channels reception and can affect reception of other channels.
for UK TV installations i use cable that is copper rather than aluminium, i find it just performs better. i use televes t100 cable - most good suppliers should stock this - but it aint cheap!!

With all the talk of people looking for alternative English TV channel reception amongst the British expats with the present uncertainty with Telmicro Levante, I have done a bit of research into satellite installation.

Two good resources have been found.

The first is from a UK satellite TV seller who has several free online books covering instillation of their own DIY satellite systems.
It covers the basics of a wall mounted satellite dish, along with giving a chart showing what size satellite dish you need for the whole of Europe including Spain.

https://www.satalogue.com/tech/page8.htm

The ebook titled "FREE HOME INSTALLATION e-book " is the one that covers the above information.

The second online resource of satellite dish instillation information, is a satellite locater. This uses google earth maps and shows roughly what way to point your satellite dish.

Satellite Finder / Dish Pointing Calculator with Google Maps | DishPointer.com

Enter your town into the top box, use the next drop down box for the satellite your trying to line up with.
You can move the green blob (you will know what I mean when you visit the web site) directly to your house location by clicking on it and holding the left mouse button.

That way you will get some idea of the best location to mount or install your satellite dish on your property.

Good luck

as i have said, the signals very greatly in spain, and so dish requirements will also vary. i can get away with a 1.8m dish, but 20kms away i would recommed a 2.4!! and it also depends if you can live without getting certain channels - on your 1,4 whats your reception like for bbc2, as a 1,8 would make a difference in reception of bbc2?
