remind me what type of box you have? i think you have a nonsky box...

my old blue FSFS card is stil working in an offical sky receiver.

but it looks like some cards in non sky boxes have not been processing the "stay alive" signal, and may well need reactivation in a sky receiver, as you are not the first to mention this...

Its a darkbox with the blue freesat card if that helps Jon.

Is it a case of leaving it on five overnight like in the past, or a new type sky card needed

I can try it in a Skybox for you and see if it will wake up.
I also have other options available.
Not far from you, just outside Catral.
Phone 600899096.

Thanks very much for that.

I had heard of someone else having to get a new card with a darkbox or something similar.

I know at one stage Jon said the cards were changing and weren't sure if they were shutting them down in batches.

No problem, some blue cards have gone off, some still working, but who knows how much longer.

like i said, i know that a few of the old blue FSFS cards that have not been used in sky boxes are NOT processing the "stay alive" codes that they should be doing.

one person i know has successfully reawoken the card by popping it in a sky box for a few hours and it came back on, but a few others have not had such luck.

there is no way of telling if a new white card will act in the same way or not if used in a non sky box, and it will be down to the developers of the db software to ensure their software can process these signals correctly. And this may not be known until the new encryption that the new cards use is activated.

With various tecnical issues (like som eo fhte new encryption now working 100% on old sky boxes, and postal strikes) the big swicth off date has been delayed a few time. My latest is that it will be in January.

(it is not much of a switth off, just that the blue cards number will no longer receive a "keep alive" signal, so you card may last a few days longer after the switch off date)

https://mysky.sky.com/replacecard/get-a-card you can send for a white card on this Link? but it needs to be sent to a address in the UK,then activated on the Phone, you do not need to be on a land Line to activate it ,you can contact Sk::. by Mobile or Skype "!if you no what I mean"? then inform them of my old sk:: box with the details of the box ie Model /make/ box number told them I had no old card been given the box with out a card. and all is fine?
