Default HD receiver on a fixed dish

Hi,
I am going HD so I need a HD receiver. At the moment I have a the freeview stuff that sky provide on my old sky + box.
I have read mags and they all seem to be advertising the Humax Fox Sat freesat box. I then found other Boxes like the Tecnomate hd 6800 and the Darkbox Super HD. I look at their sites and the jargon frightens me. So basically I want a quality receiver for a FIXED DISH that will give me quality pictures and ease of use. Can the DARKBOX and the TECNOMATE receiver more channels than the HUMAX?

What box suits my needs please. Recommendations please

the advantages of the darkbox are that you can use your freestfromsky card in it and get the C4HD, FIVE, FIVER, FIVE US,the "other" itvs and "other" c4's that will not be available on a freesat humax box (but you need to have "adjusted" software in the TM of DB to read the sky card - and it is unknown if they will be able to read the new sky cards that are expected early 2009!)

the freesat version of five is only available for the same time as bbc2 (they share the same frequency).

the freesat box can get more channels than in the officail freesat list - but use of a non freesat menu.

with the TM and dark, if any new channels appear, or if existing channels setting are updated then you have ot manually rescan for these settings...the freesat box will automatically update (not the nonfreesat stuff tho!")

not really a receommendation, but a bit of ads and disads for both...

Thank you The Sat and PC Man your info was very useful.
Can you enlighten me more on the Humax picking up non freesat channels?

Approx how many channels and could give me an idea what they be?

At the moment it looks like the Humax because I am concerned about the Darkbox with Sky changing their cards.

Do you stock the Humax HD?

the freesat receiver have their own official freesat EPG - which basically has only those channels that have paid freesat to be on their EPG...and have a proper epg listing....so bbc1 is on 101, bbc is on 102

but you can, using the menu system, ask the humax to go into nonfreesat mode - and therefore you can load channels into a non freesat epg....it loads cahnnels into numbers as it finds them...so you may find bbc1 on channel 201 for example....but this way also finds all the other free cahnnels that are no on the offical freesat epg....

last time i did an astra2 / eurobird 1 scan using an 80cm dish i pick up 200 free tv and radio channels...obviously with a 1,.8 or 2.4 that number iwll incresase as bbc and itv has over 15 regional variations alone...

i do stock the humax hd, and awaiting a stock of the new humax hd pvr (hard dish receorder inside but i dont cover your area....(part of my expert buisness plan pointed out by lee in another thread!! cheers lee - noticed you used the "pipe up " phrase again !!)
