Going by the satellite TV reception you get in Spain with a large dish, which on certain channels can only be described as a total waste of time trying.

What equipment were the rebroadcasters using?

IMO if there is still a chance of the rebroadcasters being legal, hang on.

BBC2, channel 4 are diabolical. Very very few decent channels broadcast at present.

I'm getting mixed messages about BBC2 and Channel 4 reception. I've been told that in this area, on a 1.95 you can get BBC2 from about 6.00pm till midnight or with a 2.4m you get it from about midday/early afternoon till after midnight. I thought the issue was that BBC2 fades out at some time during the evening depending on dish size/sensitivity of the box but is ok during the day.

Channel 4 is difficult to get but Channel 4+1 is better.

What's your experience?

Diabolical, crap, don't bother, not worth a ####

BBC2, I'm a top gear fan. Watched it Sunday. BBC2 became fully clear five minutes into top gear. It goes off about an hour after.

Channel 4, don't bother in the day. Film 4 is another one. Early evening, you might get to see one full film.
Channel 4 +1 is good all day.

2.4m dish with dark box digi box is the set up.

A lot of channels try the +1 option if the reception is crap to dire

Movies 4 Men +1 works all day. Movies 4 men 1 and 2 are patchy with their times.

Our box is tuned into two other satellites now in the hope of finding some stronger channels. BBC SE and a few other BBC 1 variants can be picked up off the other Astra satellites.

Ok, thanks that's useful to know. I've seen your recommendation about your installer so I guess it's not the dish's fault but maybe our expectations about what channels we'll get going down the big dish route. I don't know much about the Darkbox in terms of its sensitivity but I've read that the Humax HD has a good tuner.

Please tell me that BBC1 & ITV are ok to watch or I'll start thinking I'll just keep my 80cm dish and watch BBC News or Sky News all evening - or if I'm desperate, True Movies!

BBC1 and ITV are good. Been watching both tonight with no problems.

Sometimes you might need to use BBC1 channel islands, but in general its only the regional news that might vary.

BBC channel islands from what I can gather is recommended for watching BBC 1

Again tonight I tried BBC1 from another of the Astra satellites and watched the south east news. When I lived in the UK with cable TV, I only ever watched London news.

According to the freesat web site they are getting more channels.. I have no idea what they are.

There is an awful lot of junk TV stations in the free ones. But how many can you watch at one time.

Movies 4 Men does show some good films from time to time, depending o what your into. They also show a lot of westerns, which you can imagine being filmed in Spain. If you have been down to the film studio's in Almeria, you will know what I mean. Great day out if you have not been.
