Short
city breaks and other last-minute getaways are becoming increasingly popular among British people, with many travellers now choosing them over the traditional two-week summer holiday, according to research.
Visa Europe carried out a survey which found that just over a third (34 per cent) of Brits now take multiple short trips throughout the year rather than a single two-week break.
A fifth (21 per cent) of the people polled said they are planning to take more holidays this year and 83 per cent revealed they are expecting to go on between one and five short breaks.
While
Spain retained its status as the holiday destination of choice for Brits, the
US,
France and
Greece were also found to be popular.
Visa Europe spokesman Euan Ballantyne said: "Britons take 65 million trips abroad every year, looking for great deals and taking advantage of independent travel options by booking over the internet."
He added: "Our research shows that increasingly we are holidaying at the last minute, jetting off for spontaneous short breaks."
France Tuke of Abta recently said that European cities are still the most popular choice among Brits taking short breaks, despite the unfavourable exchange rate in the eurozone.
